Description: |
View from the Northeast side of the Irwin home and gardens, located at 608 Fifth Street in Columbus, Indiana. It was taken in the Summer, likely just after the 1910 remodel. Originally built by banker Joseph Ireland Irwin in 1864, it was expanded in 1910 under the direction of architect Henry A Philips, transforming it into a 13,000 square foot Italianate mansion with large garden based on the Casa delgi Innamorati in Pompeii. The garden house was also an homage to Italy, with murals of Pompeii. It is now operated as an Inn. |
