German Gardeners Benefit Society Family Outing, Germania Park, 1911

Description: Group portrait of the German Gardeners Benefit Society of Indianapolis at their 1911 family outing in Germania Park. Founded by German immigrants in 1867, the club promoted horticulture and floriculture, in addition to providing financial support to its members and fresh vegetables to the community. In the 1930s the Club dropped the German from their name. Germania Park also had a name change and is now called German Park. It is located on South Meridian Street.
