Description: Group portrait of Blackford County draftees off to service in the first World War. They are dressed in civilian clothes and posed on the Courthouse lawn. The Selective Service Act or Selective Draft Act was enacted in May 18, 1917. The first registration of draftees took place on June 5, 1917 for all men between ages 21 and 31. The men pictured selected during the second round of draft calls in September, 1917
