Group portrait of men and boys in front of the Senate Avenue YMCA in Indianapolis. In 1912, the first cornerstone was laid for an African-American branch of the YMCA on Senate and Michigan Avenues in Indianapolis. Booker T. Washington dedicated the building in 1912. This YMCA would become the largest African-American branch of the YMCA in the United states. In 1959 it moved to 10th Street and Fall Creek Parkway and changed its name to the Fall Creek YMCA. |
