Group portrait of Red Cross workers, doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers, in front of Methodist Hospital in May 1919, a period which marked the end of a lengthy flu outbreak in Indianapolis. The influenza was first documented in Indianapolis September 1918 and spread throughout the Winter. This outbreak was a part of a larger pandemic that took hold of the United States throughout 1918 and 1919. This photo was taken for Dr. Charles P. Emerson, Dean of Indiana School of Medicine from 1911-1932, who studied and published on the influenza outbreak. |
