137th U. S. Field Artillery Band, Camp Shelby, Mississippi, 1918

Description: Group portrait of the 137th U. S. Field Artillery Band with their instruments, taken at Camp Shelby outside Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They stand in front of a lookout and numerous tents. It was an Indiana-based band, and the verso of the photo includes a complete list of the names of the men pictured and the Indiana towns from which they hailed. Camp Shelby became a training camp in 1917 for World War I troops and was deactivated after the end of the war.
