Description: |
Boy Scout Troop 74 is assembled at Camp Chank-tun-un-gi in June of 1923. Seen here with what appears to be their parents and possibly some officials from the Kiwanis organization the scouts are prepared for their day at camp. Located on the northeast side of Indianapolis, the Belzer Scout Reservation opened in 1918 as Camp Chank-tun-un-gi. The Indianapolis Boy Scout Council was organized in November 1914 and the first scout executive was Francis O. Belzer. He served until 1940 after which the camp was renamed for him. The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order. |
