Thousands Gather for a Public Event, Circa 1918

Description: This public event was photographed by Martins Photo Shop. Thousands of people are gathered in a park to view what looks like a wedding ceremony on a small platform. A man in a military uniform and a young woman in a wedding dress stand before another man in uniform. There are young girls with baskets of flowers on the platform with them. The town is decorated with bunting and flags and the event appears to be patriotic and perhaps is related to World War I. Toward the left side of the image is a banner hanging on a building welcoming the K of P (Knights of Pythias), so this could be a lodge event. The image did not have documentation attached. Photographed by the Martin Photo Shop of Terre Haute, this could be a town near that city.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order.
