Western Electric Plant on the Canal at 400-420 West Ohio Street, Circa 1920

Description: At one time a Western Electric Plant was located at 400-420 West Ohio Street in Indianapolis. Western Electric manufactured telephone equipment for the Bell system. To the west of Western Electric is the Zenite Metal Company. The view is looking north, the canal is on the right and there is a railroad track on the east bank of the canal. The New York Street bridge crosses the canal in the distance, and the tower of Bethel A.M.E. Church can be seen beyond that. These buildings are on the site of the current Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center located at 450 West Ohio Street. The canal remains but the railroad tracks are gone.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order.
