Branson Street, LaFontaine, Indiana

Description: La Fontaine was settled around 1833. It was platted in 1845 and named Ashland due to all the wood burned at the tannery there. In 1873 the towns name was changed to La Fontaine to honor Miami chief François la Fontaine.
Message on postcard reads: LaFontain Aug. 19, Your card was duly received. I suppose just a few more days and your school days will be ended for a while. Time and space is scarce for it is almost mail time and may be the mail man has gone. [Cleo?] Postcard addressed to: Mr. Floyd Gaunt, 503 E. 6th St., Bloomington, Ind.
