Description: |
Akron was settled in 1836 by a group from Ohio and called Newark. Their leader declared, “This is the New Ark, consummating the covenant seeking homes in a new land.” It was later discovered that another Indiana town was named Newark, so it was renamed Akron for the city in Ohio. |
