Main Street, Looking North, Carbon, Indiana

Description: Carbon, Indiana was founded in 1870 by the Carbon Block Coal Company, who named it for its resource. The town was ravaged by a fire in 1905 that was caused by sparks from a passing train. It destroyed many of the business houses. This view shows Carbon’s Main Street.
