Men loading silage into silo, Willard Geswein farm, 1952

Description: The latest grass-silage making machinery is demonstrated at the Grass Silage Field Day event on the Willard Geswein Farm near Lanesville, Indiana on May 28, 1952. The event drew 250 farmers from Orange, Floyd, Crawford, and Harrison Counties who observed numerous demonstrations of modern equipment and machinery. Demonstrations included four different forage harvesters, two silo blowers, six wagons designed for handling grass silage, as well as a variety of mowers, side delivery rakes, and other items. A total of twelve and one-half acres of a mixture of alfalfa, grass, and oats were harvested and stored as silage during the day. Also, a Purdue University agricultural engineer led a discussion with a panel of local farmers about agricultural practices. On the panel were Harvey Binkley, Oscar Voelker, Dave Blank, and Ed Stilger.
