REMC construction crew

Description: This large group of men served as the construction crew that installed electrical wiring for the Harrison County REMC project in 1939. They stand in front of the Harrison County courthouse in Corydon, Indiana. The Rural Electrification Membership Corporation, or REMC, brought electricity to hundreds of rural homes and farms for the first time. The new lines took electrical power from a connection with lines of the Public Service Company of Indiana near the Harrison Grange Hall east of Corydon, and delivered electricity to 1,243 consumer-members of the Harrison County REMC. The men in this photo were employees of the F. A. Goll Construction Co., and approximately one third of the group were from either Harrison or Floyd County, Indiana. They are identified as follows: Front row (left to right): F. Immel, John Lentz, James Bailey, Harold Hardin, Noel McKim, Dewey Dooley, Eugene Rosenbarger, Earl Chism, Wendell Cartmell, John Downing, Donald Sage, R. O. Anderson, and J. L. Campbell. Second row: Hans Anderson, Laverne Trieloff, Olaf Rindahl, Kenneth Grant, Willis Surface, Raymond Day, Paul Mattox, Carl Wait, Charles Smith, and George Kirby. At random in back are: S. H. Asby, Lester Chills, Will StohBusch, Dewey Rissler, William Riendahl, Al Bradison, Hubert Tindall, Arthur Miller, Charles Robertson, Denzil Liebert, Floyd Surface, George Higdon, Sheldon Frank, Marion Oiler, Wilber Buttermore, Allen Burns, and Carl Furgerson.
