Elva Cunningham repairs watches

Description: Jeweler Elva Cunningham repairs watches in the shop she and her brother operated in Corydon. At the time of this photograph, Cunningham was reportedly the only female jeweler in Indiana. She was born in 1915 and was the daughter of Martha and John Cunningham. Elva went on to become an optometrist, and opened a practice in Corydon after graduating from college in 1939. Dr. Elva Cunningham died in 1942 at the age of twenty-seven due to complications of diabetes.
