Gordon C. Greene (steamboat), crew autographs

Description: The Gordon C. Greene was one of the last packets built in 1923 at the Howard Shipyards in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The vessel was first named Cape Girardeau and owned by the Eagle Packet Company of St. Louis. In 1935, the Greene Line of Cincinnati, Ohio, purchased the boat and changed its name in honor of its founder. This image of the Gordon C. Greene features photos and signatures of the ships master, Thomas R. Greene, and its captain, Mary B. Greene, as well as signatures of various crew members, including pilot Jesse Hughes. The signatures were collected on a 1946 trip on the Gordon C. Greene up the Ohio River from Cincinnati to the Kanawha River in West Virginia.
