Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: A judge behind the bench in a courtroom holds up a sign declaring that the drainage canal shall continue to empty into the Mississippi River. The Supreme Court. A man labeled Missouri, wearing a dark coat and hat, frowns at the sign. A second man, labeled Illinois, points to the sign and smiles. A woman behind him, labeled Chicago, puts her hand on his shoulder. She is wearing a chicken on her head and a shield on the bodice of her dress. A note in the bottom margin says that this was one of Knechts first cartoons for The Evansville Courier.
