Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Uncle Sam raises flags on a flagpole outside Evansvilles Old Post Office and Custom House. The American flag flies at the top of the pole; under it are four weather flags, which are changed depending on the weather forecast. The American flag says that it is always tops, but the weather flags reply that people pay more attention to them. Public walks down the sidewalk outside the Old Post Office; he remarks to Uncle Sam that the weather flags seem to change every other day. Uncle Sam replies that changing the flags keeps him busy.

Im the same every day--! Always tops. Sure--yeah! But weve had their eyes now--month after month--day after day! Seems we get a change in weather flags every other day! P.s. no special flag for a tornado as for a hurricane. Keeps me busy. Join Ernie Pyle Marines. [in margins: Flag Day!! 6-14-1957]
