Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Scene from a county fair showing the effects of inflation. The carousel operator and another fair barker (who is possibly selling tickets to a sideshow) discuss how poor their business has been, even though people have plenty of money. Signs indicate that the price of both the carousel and the sideshow have increased greatly, by 400-500%. The shade of Public, sitting unseen on a tent stake, says that its a sign were not taking inflation for granted. In the background, people look at the livestock on display at the fair. The grandstand and other display areas are also busy. A man says that these are the real ideas of fairs rather than rides and expensive attractions.

Womens Hall. This and thats the real ideas of fairs. Farm machinery. Fruit, floral, art halls. Im thinking of tearing down and call it a season. Boys--its a sign were not taking inflation for granted. Remember when your lingo spiel for such was: One-dime-the-tenth-part-of-a-dollar! Now--the idea--20 cent-25--and even 50 cents.* Public. 10 cents. 25 cents. 50 cents. 5 cents. 10 cents. 20 cents. *Just an illustration of the trend of the times in all things. I cant figure it out with all the dough they got. Yeah! And in New York they get $6.60 for stage shows. [in margins: 8-29-46]
