An open letter to Indiana about roads, a large coxcomb, a strange potato, and late season apple and pear blooms. Image Access WideTEK 25 An Open Letter To The Indiana State Highway Commission; Why in making such a fine elaborate map do you dead-end and stop short the main highways, as for example, U.S. 41 route is stopped on map at St. John. Even through the 41 is well marked itself it is confusing to those on first trip or none-too-often-tourist not to see 41 taken them directly into and through Chicago as it does. (Goes way up to Canada) To the uninitiated, especially at night, markings for #12 and #20 around Michigan City are none too clear, as one tries to make the super-highway into Chicago from the east. (Take #20 not #12) - From A.T. Potatoes that grow into and out of bottles are no longer oddities as we had 3 such last week - From H.T. Morgan - Velpen, Ind. Jos. Filittner, New Harmony Sam R. Wilson D.B. Logsdon Corydon Ky. Likewise - we find blooms a second time on apple, pear etc. most common. We had many such, even John Walton, in Evansville, to phone or send them in - However not only did early red June apples bloom twice from C.E. Brandis - Howell - Evansville, but he has a second crop, one twig with four apples on it - Second crop of grapes - P.R. Taylor Marion KY. Owensboro KY. With so many towns and cities the world over having the same name, as a dozen Evansvilles, its gratifying to know there is only one Owensboro in the world - J.C.L. A 12 x 33 inch coxcomb grown by Mrs. R.A. Benson 322 East Florida Street Weigela Bush - which bloom in May now bloom in Poseyville, Ind. Mrs. Mary Reynolds Mrs. Roscoe Meredith My size |
