Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Emperor Hirohito walks into the United States Embassy, which is serving as General MacArthurs headquarters during the American occupation of Japan. A crowd of Japanese people bow to the emperor as he passes by; some look directly at him while others peak from between their fingers. They all have question marks above their heads. Text in the bottom right corner says that this visit made by the emperor to General MacArthur may break the 2600 year spell that has held the Japs in a medieval trance, in which the people of Japan revered the emperor so highly that they didnt even look directly at him.
