10 p.m. curfew introduced for children under 15. A whistle sounds 10 p.m. Public jumps out of his chair with surprise at the noise. A dog runs under his chair and a cat arches its back in fear. Other times when the whistle has been sounded: to announce fires and to celebrate the end of World War I. A fire truck speeds past and people celebrate the armistice with signs and an effigy of Wilhelm II. A girl runs home from the movies to make it by curfew.
