A promissory note written in French that states Charles Londos alias Longuedoc owes $100 to Louis Mallet is presented. The note is dated February 15, 1815 and payable June 15, 1815. The action is on a note of hand for money amounting to $45. Therefore bail is required per G. W. Johnston, P. Q. with cost of execution, service and return and bail bond being $1.34. A complaint is filed during the March 1816 term by Louis Mallet. Mallett complains of Charles Londos alias Longudoc on a plea of trespass. The complaint states that on February 15, 1815 Charles was indebted in the amount of $100 to Louis and damages of $100 are also requested. The complaint also states that Charles Longuidoc is currently in custody and that Louis Mallet has put in his place General W. Johnston as his attorney. A bail bond is filed during the March 1816 term. The bond states that on November 29, 1815, Michael Dubois, Deputy Sheriff of Knox County undertook for Charles Longudoc, at the suit of Louis Mallett in a plea of trespass to the damage of the said Louis Mallett $45. That the case is now pending in the Circuit Court held at Vincennes on the first Monday of March next. That Charles Longudoc will appear and shall pay and satisfy the condemnation of the court or render his body to prison or Michael Dubois will do it for him. The bond is signed by Charles Longudoc and Michael Dubois and witnessed by Philip Almy. A subpoena is issued for Ambrose Mallet to appear before the judges of the Circuit Court now held in Vincennes this instant. He is to give evidence on behalf of Louis Mallett, plaintiff against Charles Landos alias Longadoc on a plea of trespass. A $100 charge will apply if they do not appear in court. The bail bond is dated June 7, 1816 and witnessed by R. Buntin, Clerk. The bond is executed by B. V. Beckes, Sheriff of Knox County with service and return with mileage being $.52 1/2. A cost of court bill for November 29, 1815 to June 15, 1815 is filed for $11.50 1/2. There is a notification on the back stating the debt was satisfied. The court decided as judgment that the plaintiff was to recover from the defendant the $45 debt with interest for June 15, 1815 together with cost and charges. |
