This file contains two documents related to the suit William Morrison brought against Francois Cardinal for the failure to pay off a promissory note. The case was dismissed. A Summons was issued for Francois Cardinal so that he would appear in the Circuit Court on the first Monday of March to answer unto William Morrison in a plea of Trespass and damages for the sum of one-hundred dollars. It was witnessed and signed by Robert Buntin, Clerk CCKC on the 6 th of December 1814. On the verso side of the summons Came to hand the 10th and executed 20 December 1814 H (Henry) J. Mills, DSKC. The second document was the Complaint filed by Gen. Johnston for William Morrison during the March Term 1815. It stated that Francois Cardinal on the 30th day of November 1814 was indebted to Morrison for $53.82 for good and wares and promised to prosecute. On the verso side of the complaint, William Morrison put in his place, Genl. W. Johnston as his attorney against Francois Cardinal in an action of Trespass. According to the Knox County Minute Book of the Circuit Court 1811-1817 (Circuit Court) page 120: March Term 1815, the Plaintiff appeared by General W. Johnston and dismissed the cause. It was considered that the Defendant recover of the Plaintiff his cost and charges about his defense. |
