Description: The file contains the documents related to the suit that Thomas Jordan brought against David Watson, Jr. for failure to pay off a Promissory Note. On September 14, 1807 David Watson, Jr. signed a Promissory Note that the would pay on the 1st day of January $30.00 for value received. The note was witnessed by P. [Parmenas] Beckes and G. Mc Cown. On the verso side of the note, Interest on this note $.82 1/2 as of June 15, 1808. A Complaint was filed during the July Term 1808 by Johnston, the attorney, for Thomas Jurdin in a plea that David Watson, Jr. render unto him $30.00 for the Promissory Note he signed, and damages of $100.00. Thomas Jurdin put in General W. Johnston as his attorney against David Watson, Jr. July 18, 1080, R [Robert] Buntin, Clerk, issued a Summons for the sheriff to pick up David Watson so he would be in court on the last Monday of July instant to answer to a plea that he owed Jurdin $30.00. On the verso side; Tax paid, bail required. Kept off by force of arms. Samuel Hayes, D. Sheriff On October 31, 1808, R [Robert] Buntin, Clerk issued a second Summons for David Watson, Jr. to appear in court on the last Monday of November 1808 to answer to a plea of debt by Jurdin. On the verso side was Not time to serve. Samuel Hayes, D. S. On December 12, 1808, a third Summons was issued by R. Buntin, Clerk to bring David Watson Jr. to appear in court on the third Monday of March 1809. On the verso side: bail required, executed P. [Parmenas] Beckes, Sheriff. Also noted was the court fees of $1.59 and Peter Jones and George Wallace Bail. January 12, 1809, Recognizance bond was signed by David Watson, Peter Jones and George Wallace, Jr. for $30.00. This was to insure that Watson would appear in court the third Monday in March of 1809. The bond document was signed before John Mc Candless. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas page 200; during the July Term 1809, the Plaintiff appeared by Gen. W. Johnston and the Defendant did not appear. The office Judgment, the Plaintiff recover against the Defendant and Peter Jones his appearance bail of $30.00, also $2.85 in damages, and any court costs or charges.
