A Union Army worn by Lieutenant John Smith Tally during his service in the Civil War, 1862. The coat is of a rich dark blue material with a stiff, high necked collar. The coat is knee length and is closed by 7 Brass buttons that feature balled eagles on each. The shoulders are punctuated by two sets of epaulets which are pictured separately. The first set being red with black borders and the second blue with gold bars and a gold border. The coat is closed at the waist with a light red sash that ties at the hip and continues down to mid thigh level ending in two large tassels. The sleeves also feature three brass eagle buttons each. The back of the coat is pleated twice and features four more buttons. The duty hat has as flat black leather bill held down with a leather band which is riveted with brass to the sides of the cap. The rest of the cap is made from blue felt. The rivets of the cap read GAR. |
