An entry from John E. Wilkins Diary, dated May 1864. Wilkins describes the skirmishes they had with the Confederate Army and how they were able to push them back. He was also offered the position of Assistant Adjustant General, but he turned it down because he thought he deserved a rest for all the work he had done. Wilkins also describes how they ransacked and destroyed property in the towns of Alexandria and Grand Ecore along the Mississippi River. |
