Nicholas Filbeck Medal, 1865

Description: A medal presented to Nicholas Filbeck for his time in service with the 32nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Filbeck falsified his age to join the 32nd in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1861. He was wounded, captured and returned to Terre Haute after a short stay in a Union hospital. He later served as Post Master in Terre Haute. The medal is shaped like a shield and consists of two parts linked by chain. The top half has N. Filbeck engraved into the banner and floral decor. The bottom half has the company and Regiment engraved into it. The medal back has the makers mark and a pin for wearing on clothing.
