Description: An American Express co. letter to a John (Unknown) from his brother Bill (unknown). Bill speaks of tensions erupting as the Civil War rages. In the local community secessionists are clashing with Union supporters and Bill (Unknown) was forced to fire a shot gun at some men who were sneaking around his property when they refused to identify themselves. August 23, 1861.
