African American Soldier, Union Infantry

Description: A daguerreotype showing an African-American soldier in full Union Army dress for duty. On his belt hangs a leather standard issue cartridge case and a bayonet in holster. His belt buckle bears the initials U.S. for United States. He also has a shoulder strap slung over his uniform that has a steel buckle in the middle. The daguerreotype is housed in a small, ornate case with soft material around the edges to cushion and protect the image.
