Description: |
On the morning of February 7, 1889 fire broke out in Providence Convent and quickly spread through the brick walls to the frame chapel on the west. Despite the efforts of the sisters and Terre Haute firefighters, convent and chapel were completely destroyed. To protect the unfinished church, embers had to be watched day and night as depicted in this scene showing sisters pouring a hot drink for those keeping vigil. |
