JenkinsHonorary DegreesDoctor of EngineeringAnton Hulman GeorgePresident and Chief Executive OfficerIndianapolis Motor SpeedwayIndianapolis, IndianaAnton Hulman Tony George has earned an international reputation for his outstanding leadershipthat has resulted in an aggressive program of expansion and investment during his tenure as president andchief executive officer of the worlds premier racing facility, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Thespeedway is host to the worlds largest sporting event, the Indy 500. George founded the Indy RacingLeague in 1994 to preserve the traditions and excitement of Americas open-wheel racing. In the same year,George brought the NASCAR Winston Cup Series to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard400, which has become the worlds second largest sporting event. In 2000, IMS welcomed the drivers ofFormula One for the inaugural United States Grand Prix. The speedway now hosts the triple crown ofauto races.In honor of Georges efforts to bring the U.S. Grand Prix to Indianapolis, the IMS received theprestigious Formula One Constructors Association Award in 2000. The award is presented to the bestpromoter and event organizer in Formula One each year.George represents the third generation of IMS ownership for the Hulman family ofTerre Haute. AntonTony Hulman, Georges grandfather, purchased the speedway in 1945. Mari Hulman George, serves as theIMS chairman of the board. Tony George was appointed IMS president in 1989.George also serves as president ofTerre Haute-based Hulman and Company, the parent company toIMS. Hulman and Company was established in 1850. He serves on the Rose-Hulman Institute ofTechnology Board of Trustees and on the board of directors of the Terre Haute First National Bank, FirstFinancial Corporation, the Indiana State University Foundation, the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership,Vectren Corporation, Indiana Gas Company and the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club.Doctor of EngineeringEric Mooney, M.D.Plastic SurgeonBassett HealthcareCooperstown, New YorkEric Mooney extends his medical services beyond his duties as a plastic surgeon at Bassett Healthcarein Cooperstown, New York, through his volunteer work to help impoverished children and adults aroundthe world. Mooney serves as a team leader and administrator for Interplast, a nonprofit organizationproviding free reconstructive surgery to people in developing nations who suffer from congenitaldeformities such as clef palate. Mooney specializes in reconstructive and hand surgery. His volunteer workhas taken him to South America, Asia and Latin America during the past eight years.Mooney has been an attending plastic surgeon at Bassett Healthcare since 1997. He previously servedas a visiting surgeon at the University of Innsbruck in Austria and as an instructor at the University ofMassachusetts Medical Center. He received the Mitch Kaplan Memorial Award for excellence in residenttraining at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and was awarded a fellowship from the University ofMassachusetts Medial Center. Mooney has also taught students attending Dartmouth,Albany and RochesterSUNYmedical schools.A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mooney graduated magna cum laude from Rose-Hulman Institute ofTechnology in 1982 with bachelors degrees in chemical engineering and chemistry. He graduated fromthe University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1986. Rose-Hulman presented Mooney with anoutstanding alumnus award in 2002. He is a member of the Interplast surgical committee, and the tissuetransplant committee of Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. During the past seven years, he has given 30presentations about plastic and reconstructive surgery at medical societies and hospitals throughout theUnited States.DoctorofHummneLette~Joy SacopulosCommunity VolunteerTerre Haute, IndianaJoy Sacopulos ofTerre Haute is an innovative community volunteer leader who for over 40 years hasbeen dedicated to developing the health and beauty of our environment, the well-being of her community,the quality of life of her fellow citizens, and the appreciation of the history and heritage that is Terre Haute.She has founded state and local organizations, recruited thousands of volunteers, revitalized valuableprograms of community service, provided visionary solutions for new programs, and raised hundreds of· thousands of dollars through grant writing and local fund raising in support of community projects.Sacopulos is a founder and volunteer for the Indiana Urban Forest Council, the Organ DonationAwareness Council of the Wabash Valley, TREES Incorporated, Friends of Historic Allen Chapel, and SacredLandmarks of Downtown Terre Haute. Her leadership and enthusiasm have sparked successful newprograms for the Indiana National Road Association, the Boy Scouts of America Wabash Valley Council, theVolunteer Action Center, and the Vigo County Historical Society. She also serves as a member of theexecutive committee of the board of directors of Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana.Sacopulos has received numerous honors for her community service including the Sagamore of theWabash, the 1997 Environmentalist of the Year Award from Indianapolis Power and light Co., the BoyScouts of America Silver Beaver Award, the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award for 1996 from theIndiana Urban Forest Council, the Best Friend of Allen Chapel Award, and the Mighty Oak Award from TREESIncorporated. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Indiana University where she earned a Bachelor of Artsdegree in English literature and education and a Master of Science degree in counseling and guidance.Doctor of EngineeringTim SolsoChairman and Chief Executive OfficerCummins, IncorporatedColumbus, IndianaDuring his 32-year career with Cummins, Inc.,Tim Solso has helped lead the Fortune 500 company toa position as a global leader in the design, manufacture, distribution and service of engines and relatedtechnologies. As president and chief executive officer of Cummins, Solso leads a company that has 23,700employees worldwide and reported sales of $5.9 billion in 2002. Cummins key markets for its engines areautomotive, power generation, marine and industrial. Headquartered in Columbus, Ind., Cummins serves itscustomers through more than 500 company-owned and independent distributor locations in 131 countriesand territories.Solso began his career with Cummins in 1971 as assistant to the vice president for personnel. Hiscareer with the company has included continuous promotions in areas ranging from development andtraining to marketing and operations. His executive management assignments have included serving asexecutive director of personnel, vice president of marketing, vice president and general manager of theengine business, executive vice president of operations, and executive vice president and chief operatingofficer. Solso was named president and chief operating officer in 1995. He became chairman and chiefexecutive officer in January 2000 .. Solso earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University in 1971, and aBachelor of Arts degree in psychology from DePauw University in 1969. Solso also serves in leadershippositions as a board member for organizations ranging from DePauw University to Ashland Inc., the IrwinFinancial Corporation, the Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County, the Ball Corporation, and the CentralIndiana Corporate Partnership. He has also been chairman,of the United Way Campaign for BartholomewCounty.Fifty-Year Commemorative DegreesFor one hundred and twenty-nine years, Rose-Hulman alumni have been makingpositive contributions to society as engineers and scientists. Success has not beenlimited to their career areas. They serve their local communities through civicorganizations, youth activities and churches.Much of the recognition Rose-Hulman enjoys today is because of our alumni.Rose-Hulman graduates make an impact.
