SHOOK MEMORIAL FIELDHOUSEHonorary DegreesDoctor of EngineeringWILLIAM J. KESTERMEIERWilliam J. Kestermeier was born in Terre Haute, Indiana and, after graduating from the former Wiley HighSchool, received his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering in 1951 from the Rose Polytechnic Institute.While in college he was a member of Blue Key Honor Fraternity. Soon after graduation he served two years activeduty as a First Leiutenant in the U.S. Army.He began his career with the Bendix Corporation in 1953 as a Junior Engineer in the Products Division andsubsequently advanced through several engineering levels. In 1962 he was associated with the Automotive ControlSystems Group where he later served in various management levels including Chief Engineer and Manager, Engi­neering.In 1978 he became the Program Manager, 1-Beam, of the Brake and Steering Division and coordinatedthe activities and functions of one of Bendix largest investments, the Ford truck 1-Beam suspension system. In1981 he was elevated to his present vice presidential level of Group Director- Quality and Reliability.NORB F. SCHAEFER, JR.Norb F. Schaefer, Jr., a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, graduated from Duke University in 1952 with a bachelorof arts degree in economics. In 1969 he completed the advanced management program of the Harvard Business School.He began his industrial career in 1952 with the Inland Container Corporation, advancing through managementto the positions of group vice president - container division and president of Inland International. He has been amember of numerous corporate boards, including the Inland Container Corporation and the Georgia Kraft Corpora­tion.Currently he is managing partner of Schaefer Investments of Indianapolis.Throughout his career he has provided his leadership and management skills to many school, church andcivic organizations. Presently he is a trustee and executive committee member of Duke University and presidentof the Park Tudor Trust of Indianapolis.WILliAM T. WEINHARDTWilliam T. Weinhardt graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institutes Mechanical Engineering Department in1943 and served in the Corps of Engineers during the remainder of World War II. He worked for several companiesprior to joining Collins Radio (which became part of Rockwell International in 1973). He was soon given responsi­bilityfor land acquisition, building design, and construction of facilities for this rapidly expanding company. By1%9 he had successfully borne the burdens and reaped the rewards associated with the creation of 2h millionsquare feet of new factory and office space.He has been Vice President and Managing Director of Europe, Middle East and Africa International Operationsand Director of Operations Planning for the International Sales and Service Division. His assignments have includ­edmanufacturing, engineering, construction, operations and program management. Mr. Weinhardt describeshimself as a management generalist which is an elegantly understated description of a multifaceted and multi­talentedman who is now Vice President and General Manager of Collins International Service Company.Doctor of LawsMALCOlM R. WILKEYMalcolm R. Wilkey was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and received his early education in Madisonville,Kentucky. He received his A.B. degree frcm Harvard University in 1940 and, after military service, attended HarvardLaw School, receiving his J.D. degree in 1948. During World War II he was an officer in field artillery and militaryintelligence, participating in five European campaigns and attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel.His legal career has included private practice in Houston, Texas and service as U.S. Attorney, Assistant AttorneyGeneral of the United States, and general counsel of Kennecott Copper Corporation. In 1970 he was appointedCircuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, a position he still holds.A scholar and educator, he has lectured at the City of London Polytechnic, at Tulane Universitys Summer LawProgram in Grenoble, France and in the San Diego Summer Program at Oxford University.
