This is a colorized postcard of the Wabash Township Graded School also known as the Mecca High School and Mecca Grade School in Mecca, Parke County, Indiana. It was sent by Vernon Bradfield to W. H. Bradfield of Riley, Indiana and has a green one cent George Washington stamp in the upper right hand corner. It is postmarked 1 May 1913 Vincennes, Indiana. Built in 1901, the Mecca School was a two-story red brick done in the Richardsonian Romanesque style and was expanded in 1910. The school closed in 1986 and was heavily damaged in a fire on 9 November 2022. Vernon Bradfield (1877-1952) was the son of Victor Vernon and Nancy Lang Bradfield. He married Maude Merle (1884-1981) the daughter of John G. and Saah Cooke Tucker. The W.H. Bradfield is possibly Vernons brother, Wilson H. Bradfield. This item was donated by the Bradfield family. |
