Rice building Rockville, Parke County, Indiana.

Description: This is a color photograph of the Rice building which stood on the northeast corner of the square in Rockville, Indiana on the corner of Ohio (US 36) and Jefferson Streets. The building, the rear of which was torn down in 2009, was a three story brick structure with facing and trim of locally sourced limestone. Iron walkways and stairs accessed the upstairs rooms. Directly behind the building is the Moore building which at one time housed the Rockville Tribune newspaper. Beyond it was the Brubeck building which housed Jacks and Jacks Motor Company. This was torn down in 2022/3. To the left is what was called the Shackelford building which later housed Dellacamps, a flower shop and an antique store. Several businesses operated out of the Rice building including the Thomson Grocery. The Rice building was built in 1874 after a fire destroyed all the north side except the National Bank.
