| Description: |
This is a color photograph of a clay block which was once part of a sawmill dam on Campbell Branch, a branch of Sugar Creek, at Devils Den in Parke County, Indiana. Stamped on the block is Ohio Valley Clay Company 1849. Devils Den, located in section 36 of Penn Township, was so called because at one time it was overrun by rattlesnakes. Joseph Campbell and John Tenbrook built the first sawmill here around 1833. The site was later purchased by Prior Wright in 1846. This item was donated by Charles Davis. |
