Folder 8814 in Box 174 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains a single document in the case of State of Indiana vs. Abraham Rusk. In Box 173 folder 8765 is the case of Eliza Rusk, a woman of color who filed for divorce from Abraham Rusk, a man of color. In her affidavit at that hearing she stated that after Rusk married and later abandoned her he had married Elizabeth Gordon while still being married to her. She also told the court that he was currently an inmate at Charlestown State Prison in Indiana. On February 15, 1866 the court indicted Rusk for bigamy. The indictment is the only document in this folder. |
