Knox County court record for Henry Rider vs. Hannah Rider, 1850

Description: Folder 6941 in Box 129 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains five documents in the case of Henry Rider vs. Hannah Rider. In the August, 1850 term of the Knox County Circuit Court Henry Rider, a man of color petitioned the court for a divorce from his wife Hannah, a woman of color stating that there had been constant turmoil and discord in their marriage. He further stated that her turbulent temper kept him in fear of great danger of violence at the hands of his wife. He asked the court to dissolve the marriage. The documents consist of his complaint, copy of the bill for divorce, summons for Hannah, witnesses for Henry Rider, and a combined document to the sheriff with various receipts attached. On the back of the statement of Henry is stated the court decision to grant the divorce.
