Knox County court record for Lodwick vs. Jackson, 1831

Description: Folder 3963 in Box 72 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains five documents in the case of Lodwick vs. Jackson. On February 22, 1831 Francis Jackson, a man of color appears before Justice of the Peace Martin Robinson and confessed that he owed John Lodwick $40.50 plus interest from November 10, 1830. He appeared again on the same date and confessed he owed Lodwick a debt of $100.00 plus 80 cents in interest and 30 cents in court costs. On August 23, 1831 Lodwick and Jackson appeared before Robinson and Jackson again acknowledged his debt to the plaintiff. On October 19, 1831 the court issues a writ to collect the debt acquiring any assets Jackson had. On March 10, 1832 the court issued a document stating that the debt was “satisfied in full”. Documents include the three court appearances of Jackson, the writ to collect the debt, and the statement that the debt was satisfied.
