Folder 3378 in Box 62 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains four documents in the case of State of Indiana vs. Abraham Walker, 1825. On September 15, 1825 was indicted for causing an affray (fighting in a public place that disturbs the peace). The affray took place on August 1, 1824. Abraham Walker, a man of color fought in the Common adjoining the town of Vincennes with James Johnson, a man of color. The jury found Walker guilty and fined him $5.00. The documents in the file consist of the indictment, recognizance bonds for Walker and Johnson for $25.00, and subpoena for both men. |
