Description: Folder 2048 in Box 34 of Knox County Circuit Court 1818 records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House holds three documents in the case of Elizabeth Jones vs. Grace, a woman of color. This case was about the escape of Grace from her owner, Elizabeth Jones. Jones had her brother Archibald McClure bring her complaint before the court to have her indentured servant arrested and returned. The three documents in the file are Jones’s statement, her brother’s request for a writ of habeas Corpus, and the court’s writ given to the Sheriff. Grace was apprehended and returned to Elizabeth Jones.
