Folder 809 in Box 11 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House holds documents in the case of the United States vs. “Ned a negro man.” In an undated document, Ned is accused of having stolen linen and calico “belonging to the United States out of the house formerly belonging to Col. Vigo.” In a summons dated July 27, 1807, witnesses sought by the sheriff of Knox Cunty include “…George a mullatto belonging to Gov. Harrison, Judy a black woman belonging to Joshua Bond and Nancy, a black woman belonging to R. Buntin.” |
