Knox County probate record for Simon Nicholson or Nichelson, 1846

Description: A folder containing probate records for Simon Nichelson (Nicholson) is housed in the Probate Records section, Box 43, at the Knox County (IN) Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House. A press printed bond dated October 2, 1846 names Andrew Nichelson as administrator. One document in this file (filed May 10, 1848) appears to be a claim from a physician, Dr. G. Baty, for attendance during Nichelson’s (no first name) “final sickness” in August and September of 1846. Baty’s first initial, “G” is at odds with the name Dr. John Isadore Baty credited with building, around 1830, the area’s first hospital. This file contains numerous receipts and claims against the estate as well as administrator’s accounts, summonses, bonds and an inventory with accompanying bill of sale. There are also numerous bills and promissory notes. Also included are published administrator’s notices, affidavits and an inventory of real estate. One document names William McCord as guardian of minor heirs Martin Nichelson and Mary Nichelson.
