TWO ROOMS OF THIS HOUSE BUILT EARLY IN 1800-VINCENNES, INDIANA The heronine of Maurice Thompsons famous novel Alice of Old Vincennes was raised amid the hardships of life in this old frontier town of Vincennes, Indiana. Alice was stolen in infancy and raised as a Creole. By birth she was a member of one of the early Colonial families. The story of love between Alice and one of Clarks Lieutenants led to marriage, and was one of the years greatest romances of the peroid of 1779 - the same year Clark conquered the Old Northwest. Alices real name was Mary Shannon. (back) |
