A letter from George Gegner to his future wife, Lizzie Wayman, dated September 25, 1864. Gegner was stationed in Decatur, Georgia at the time he wrote the letter. In the letter, George tells Lizzie that it had rained the week beforebut as he writes the letter it became a beautiful day. He also tells her that he wished he was home to spend the Sabbath with her. George writes that the knapsacks that he and other men left behind in Resaca turned up but everything was missing frim his except for a hymn book and a neck tie. He also tells Lizzie that the Paymaster had stopped by and he should get paid within the next few days. George also writes that their mail was stopped in Nashville and he hopes that means his Regiment will be able to go home soon. |
