A letter from George Gegner to his future wife, Lizzie Wayman, dated September 19, 1864. Gegner was stationed in Decatur, Georgia at the time he wrote the letter. In the letter, George tells Lizzie that his Regiment made camp in the woods about a mile away from the city of Decatur in Georgia and that they would be there for awhile. George writes that his Regiment will recieve new uniforms and that they have plenty to eat. He also tells her that he wrote a letter to his parents and that he is very anxious to visit them. George tells Lizzie that he wants the war to be over and that he believes is Abraham Lincoln is elected president for a second term that the war would be over quickly. He also thanks Lizzie for the stamps and paper that she sent him and tells her to give his regards to family and friends. |
