Description: |
A letter from George Gegner to Lizze Wayman, dated January 1, 1864. Gegner was stationed in the camp of the 130th Regiment near Columbia, Tennessee at the time of the letter. In the letter, George wishes Lizzie a Happy New Years and tells her there was no better way to spend the holiday than to write her a letter. George tells Lizzie that he was disappointed because he had not had any letters from her but he had heard that the railroad had been torn up and so that was the reason for the delay of mail. He tells her there are rumours his Regiment will be headed to Dolton, Georgia but he doesnt know how true the rumours are. George also tells Lizzie that he wont be going home anytime soon, but he did see men from their neighborhood, including Frank Baker of the 140th Indiana Regiment. |
