150THE NORMAL ADVANCEmally accepted the provisions of this section,such board or trustee are authorized to requireall youths between the ages of fourteen and sixteen years who are engaged in regular employment, in part-time classes, and have formallyaccepted the provisions of this section, suchboard of trustees are authorized to require allyouths between the ages of fourteen and sixteen years who are regularly employed, to attend school not less than five hours per weekbetween the hours of 8 A. M. and 5 P. M. during school time.Sec. 12. Whenever twenty or more residentsof a county, who are actively interested in agriculture, shall file a petition with the countyboard of education for a county agent, togetherwith a deposit of $500.00 to be used in defraying expenses of such agent, the county boardof education shall file said petition, withinthirty days of its receipt, with the countycouncil, which body shall, upon receipt of suchpetition, appropriate annually the sum of$1,500.00 to be used in paying the salary andother expenses of said county agent. Whenthe county appropriation has been made thecounty board of education shall apply to Purdue University for the appointment of a countyagent whose appointment shall be made annually and be subject to the approval of thecounty board of education, and the state boardof education. When such appointment hasbeen made, there shall be paid annually fromthe state fund provided for in this act, to Pur-,due University, to be paid to the county providing for a county agent, an amount sufficientto pay one-half the annual salary of the countyagent appointed as herein provided: Provided,That not more than $1,000 shall be appropriated to. any one county: Provided, further.That not more than (30) counties during theyear ending September 30, 1914 and sixty(60) counties during the year ending September 30, 1915, shall be entitled to state aid. Itshall be the duty of such agent, under the supervision of Purdue University, to co-operatewith farmers institutes, farmers clubs andother organizations, conduct practical farmdemonstrations, boys and girls clubs and contest work and other movements for the advancement of agriculture and country lite andto give advice to farmers on practical farmproblems and aid the county superintendent ofschools and the teachers in giving practical education in agriculture and domestic science.The county board of education is hereby authorized to file monthly bills covering salaryand expenses of county agent, the same to beapproved by Purdue University, with thecounty auditor who shall draw his warrant orwarrants on the county treasurer for the payment of same.Sec. 13. Vocational schools or departmentsfor industrial, agricultural and domesticscience education shall so long as they are approved by the state board of education as toorganization, location, equipment, courses ofstudy, qualifications of teachers, methods of instruction, conditions of admission, employmentof pupils and expenditures of money, constitute approved vocational schools or departments. School cities and towns and townshipsmaintaining such approved vocational schoolsshall receive reimbursement as provided in thisact.Sec. 14. The state, in order to aid in themaintenance of approval vocational schools ordepartments for industrial, agricultural anddomestic science education, shall, as providedin this act, pay annually to school cities andtowns and townships maintaining such schoolsand departments an amount equal to two-thirdsof the sum expended for instruction in vocational and technical subjects authorized andapproved by the state board of education. Suchcost of instruction shall consist of the totalamount raised by local taxation and expendedfor the teachers of approved vocational andtechnical subjects. School cities and townsand townships that have paid claims for tuition in approved vocational schools shall be reimbursed by the state as provided in this act.to the extent of one-half the sums expended bysuch school cities and towns and townships inpayment of such claims. |
