It was alsodecided, contrary to custom, to hold a meetingon the day before Thanksgiving.On the fourth of December the Verein hadthe pleasure of being addressed by Prof. Weng.His presence at the club is always looked forward to with great pleasure. On this occasionhe read Schillers poem, The Bells, which isthought by many to be the finest poem in theGerman language.On December 11th the club had its Kaffee-Klatsch. Although following somewhat closely the customs of the club, the spirit of Christmas pervaded it all, giving it added interest.The last meeting will be held on the 18th ofDecember. According to the constitution, theofficers for the next term will be elected at thattime. All students of German should beginthe new year right by enrolling as members ofthe Verein, and aid in making it, as it promisesto be, a most profitable and interesting termswork.plenty of material for helpful discussions. Thework of the winter term will be taken up andcontinued with the same earnestness and zeal.The Ciceronians extend the seasons greetings to all their fellow-students.CICERONIANS.Thanksgiving has passed and the Ciceronian Debating Society is busily at work again.Most of the members enjoyed their turkey athome with their feet under Pas table.Ray Cromwell was a visitor at the regularmeeting of the society, November 20, 1912. Mr.Cromwell is holding a good position at Shelburn, Tnd.As the fall term draws to a close, the societylooks back over its work and places the stampof self-approval upon it. Living, as we do, inan age of transition in governmental affairsand in industrial activities, there has beenDAEDALIAN.The boys of this organization are realizingto the fullest extent what the name Daedalianstands for, and they are planning their workas did the famous builder, so that no one canenter the Daedalian Labyrinth without becoming entangled in its spirit of efficiency and upright dealing and without feeling that afterall some things are better than victory. Thegroup is working as one man on the Inter-Society Debate, to be held Saturday, February1, 1913. The society programs have been dealing with different phases of the question fordebate and have been proving a great help toEddy, Hemmer and AVright, the Daedalianteam. The Daedalians are entering the contestfull of enthusiasm and confidence. An annualreunion of the state organization of Daedalians will be held in Indianapolis during holiday week. One feature of this reunion is theannual banquet. The state officers are nowpreparing for this event.The society is proud of the fact that one ofits members is the only male officer of theEqual Suffrage League, and it wishes that allof Mr. Miners efforts with the officers of thisorganization be crowned with unbounded success.Personal Mention.Lee Swaidner is superintendent at Kentland.Ind.Heber Martin is principal at La Crosse, Ind.Elzie Stewart is superintendent of schoolsat Arthur, 111., and Mr. G. C. Summers is principal of the High School at that place. Mr.Stewart enthusiastically declares that he isblessed with the finest housekeeper in theSucker State. |
