As I was wandering throughthe halls today, rounding up the Freshmen, Ifound a great crowd of them gathered aroundthe bulletin board, reading an article which Ishall now read to you:—(Reads Senior Challenge to Faculty, as follows:)We, the members of the Senior BaseballTeam of the Class of 1909 of the Indiana StateNormal School, in order to gain a more perfectretaliation for the whiskered jokes, stale chapeltalks, and other past injuries, avenge unjustN. Ps handed us, insure certain professors ataste of the strenuous life, provide amusementfor the Freshmen, promote a general warfare,and secure the satisfaction of dealing out afirst class drubbing, do hereby challenge theFaculty Baseball Team of the above namedschool to a game of baseball to be played onParsons Field, June 19, 1909, according tothe following rules and regulations:1. Before the game is called President Parsons shall examine the field to see if the greengrass is growing all over it.2. Professor Higgins shall umpire thegame according to the rules in the little redbook.3. While the Seniors are at bat the Facultyshall plant a Long at short, a Bean in theoutfield, and allow a Breeze to blow fromthird base.4. John B. is honest but the umpire wouldWisely watch him lest he steal.5. During the game Professor Baxter shallbe given an opportunity to demonstrate hismethod of attack.6. Roscoe shall not Hyde in the grandstand and Francis M. shall not Stalk- (er)round and smile at the girls during the game.7. Professor Cunningham shall strike nomatches during the game, but time out shallbe frequently called that he may explain theprogram to his fiancee.8. If Professor Kemp goes to sleep duringthe game the umpire shall order Professor Tur-man to give him a chalk talk as a punishmentfor the offense.9. The Faculty shall keep the Fidlarquiet while the band plays.10. Professor McBeth shall shovel sand forthree days if he should lose his temper and talkrudely to the Seniors.11. No one shall be allowed to play on theFaculty team who has been a Senior at anytime during the current year.12. All disputes arising during tho gamethat are not settled satisfactorily by the umpireshall be submitted to a board of arbitrationcomposed of five Seniors.13. If the field should be too damp theFaculty shall furnish a Dryer.14. No member of the Faculty shall be allowed to smoke or display makings duringthe game as the Freshmen should not be permitted to see such vile practices.15. While the Faculty are at bat PresidentParsons and Professors Kelso and Long shallwear their hats, lest the rays of the sun bereflected into the eyes of the Senior catcher. |
